Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) Programs in Knowledge Management

Knowledge management courses are usually available as electives within M.B.A. degree programs; however, a more focused knowledge management specialization may also be offered by some programs.

Students enrolled in knowledge management courses are ready to use a step-by-step process aimed at improving a business from within by applying lessons learned from past experiences. Program development, statistical data analysis, and social learning are all a part of these courses. Many schools offer classes in the evenings or on weekends to facilitate working students. Numerous schools also offer M.B.A. programs in an online format.

Education Requirements

Admission criteria typically require incoming students to hold a bachelor’s degree, in addition to registering minimum grade point averages in undergraduate education and minimum scores on the Graduate Record Exam.

Schools often require applicants to submit recommendations and a statement of intent aimed at demonstrating their motivation for enrolling in a master’s program. Previous undergraduate coursework in leadership, accounting, finances, economics, statistics, and marketing may also be a requirement before students may seek admittance to some programs.

Students typically take two to five years to complete the 38–54 credit hours of coursework that comprise M.B.A. programs. Core coursework may include topic areas such as the following areas of study:

•Statistical data analysis

Continuing Education Choices

While few schools, if any, offer a doctorate program in knowledge management, some offer these programs in online formats. Students have to complete over 130 credit hours, including a thesis paper, research seminars, and core studies. Students may choose a core-based curriculum or self-directed coursework; alternatively, they may choose a mixture of the two.
