Majors Overview July 11, 2015

This article talks about Master of Data Management (M.D.M.) degree programs and their education requirements, coursework, and job and wage outlook.

Master of Data Management (M.D.M.) Programs

Coursework in a master’s program in data management is devised to advance students’ knowledge of data analysis, database theory and design, and data mining. For those interested in a graduate program in the field, schools commonly offer a Master of Science in Information Systems (M.S.I.S.) with a concentration in data management.

Students complete most MSIS programs with a concentration in data management within one to two years. Specific information related to data analysis, and data management is available through such programs and students enrolled in the programs would benefit from having previous knowledge of information technology (IT) and computer systems.

Students learn about managing an organization’s data in order to increase profits by streamlining processes. They gain the tools they would need for designing, implementing, and managing the numerous data systems that can influence decision-making strategies at corporations and businesses.

Graduate-level data management programs are devised to train individuals to pursue advanced positions as information systems executives and analysts within the technology and business sectors. Program graduates may seek continuing education by enrolling in a Ph.D. in Data Management or a doctorate in a related area with a concentration in data management.

In many MSIS programs, applicants are expected to meet a grade point average standard of 3.0 and submit Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) scores.
