Graduate Programs in Interdisciplinary Studies

Elements of the humanities, arts, and natural sciences are in a master’s degree program in interdisciplinary studies. Several tracks are available through many schools offering these programs for students to choose from, these include religion and culture, global studies, gerontology, women’s studies, or forensic science. Students create a multi-discipline curriculum in collaboration with an advisor to develop their individualized track. Conduct of research and completion of a thesis is required of enrollees in most programs before they get their degree.

Educational Requirements

Admission criteria typically require incoming students to hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited school, in addition to submission of GMAT (Graduate Management Admissions Test) scores and professional references. Applicants should also have many years of work experience and a high undergraduate GPA.

With the program covering several areas of study, coursework varies by program. However, core coursework may commonly cover topic areas such as:

In May 2013, these professionals brought in respective average annual wages of $87,410, $72,430, $114,300, and $56,510 (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics).

Program graduates may seek continuing education to avail some career options. Earning a Ph.D. program in the field can lead to careers in teaching or research. Graduates may also aim for further continuing education opportunities and professional development by joining national organizations.
