Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) Programs in Marketing

Advanced topics in consumer behavior and advertising are in master’s degree programs with a concentration in marketing. The programs are also devised to impart knowledge of market research theories and international marketing. Apart from marketing concentration and general business courses, participation by students in internships at market research companies or field experiences may also be included. Some schools may facilitate enrollment of both full- and part-time students by including courses in online and on-campus formats.

Education Requirements

While requirements may vary by school, admission criteria typically require incoming students to hold a bachelor’s degree in any area, not necessarily related to business. At least some courses in economics, business, and accounting are required to be completed by applicants at some schools. Students may also be expected to submit scores for GMAT or other graduate tests.

In May 2012, market research analysts brought in an average annual wage of $60,300, while marketing managers earned $115,750 on average per annum (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics).

Continuing Education Choices

Program graduates can seek continued education by pursuing doctoral programs leading to careers in academia and research. Coursework in these programs combines advanced theoretical classes, research projects and seminars. Students who hone their analytical and communication skills complete the program with a dissertation.
