Overview of Associate Degree Program in Marketing Management

A marketing associate or marketing manager work involves promoting services, products, or goods of a business to a customer. While there isn’t an associate degree program that strictly focuses on marketing management, marketing programs do exists, including the one that leads to the Associate of Science (A.S.) in Business Marketing degree.

A.S. in Business Marketing

Students who want to learn how to promote and market products and services should pursue a marketing associate degree program that takes approximately two years to complete. The associate degree program heavily emphasizes on marketing strategy and theory rather than management principles. The program also covers foundational principles in accounting, finance, and economics.

Students in business marketing will learn about the effects that technological, social, and economic factors may have on the customer’s opinion, as well as the value of a customer’s opinion in driving marketing strategy.

Education Requirements

Vocational schools and community colleges are the main institutions that offer associate degree in marketing, as well as many other associate degree programs in the business field. Incoming students are required to hold a general educational development (GED) certificate or high school diploma, if they want to enroll in an associate degree program at these institutions.

Several courses found within the business marketing associate degree program cover general marketing principles and concepts. The following are standard courses in the program:

Continuing Education

Most individuals who are employed as business marketers possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree. A majority of universities allow individuals to transfer credits earned through an associate degree program to a four-year bachelor degree program. Advanced degrees in marketing, including a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) or a Master of Science (M.S.) will prepare students for careers in research and academia, along with advanced executive positions.
