Majors Overview April 27, 2013

Students can seek entry level jobs in accounts receivable, accounts payable, auditing and investment planning by completing an associate degree program in accounting. These programs usually concentrate on cost analysis, economics, and finance in the business setting. Students may also learn about income tax preparation at the individual level.

AA in Accounting

Students will learn about tax law, financial organization, and business strategies during the course of an Associate of Arts program in accounting. Students usually examine ethical issues in finance and banking and learn the basics of analyzing and creating financial statements. Some colleges and universities encourage students to create personal portfolios, which can later be used to highlight their financial talents when seeking employment. Depending on the accounting programs, some are designed for those who want to further their education and earn a bachelor degree. Colleges and universities offering these degree programs generally require students to have either a general educational development (GED) certificate or a high school diploma.
