Two of the best graduate degree programs in computer engineering are available through the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the Georgia Institute of Technology. The schools offer both master’s and doctoral degrees and are both highly rated by Times Higher Education and the U.S. News & World Report for their electrical engineering programs. Varying by program and school, students will learn about artificial intelligence and robotics, and may get the opportunity of studying abroad. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

In 2009, Times Higher Education rated the University of Illinois 25th best among the 200 best universities around the world. The U.S. News & World Report ranked it 5th on its 2014 list of top U.S. graduate schools for computer engineering. Various programs are available through the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE). These include a joint program leading to a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) and Master of Science (M.S.) in ECE, Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), and Master of Science (M.S.). The faculty of the department performs research in various ECE fields, such as computer architecture, robotics, and artificial intelligence.

Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta

In 2009, Times Higher Education rated Georgia Tech – a technological research university that belongs to the University System of Georgia – 12th best among the 200 best universities around the world. The U.S. News & World Report ranked it 7th on its 2014 list of top U.S. graduate schools for computer engineering. Georgia Tech offers both a Ph.D. and an MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE). Computer systems and software comprise one of the ten research groups of the ECE department. Topics covered by the research group include computer networks, computer architecture, and system software.
