University of Maryland College Park Bachelor Degree Program in Landscape Management

Landscape management is one of the most exciting programs at the UMD College this season, as it offers plenty of on-campus benefits, quality education, and extras. For students majoring in business management, a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in landscape management is an excellent way to secure a career in the progressive application of applying sound structural policies in horticultural and landscape industries. Often taken as a minor by business management students, the disciplines involve a knowledgeable foundation in the plant sciences. Students within the four year program will receive the opportunity to learn from experts in horticulture and landscape management fields.

Career Outlook for Landscape Management

Landscape managers are responsible for the maintenance and enhancements of commercial properties. Their skills include the development of both residential and commercial properties. Landscape managers may be employed in designing seasonal color displays and other landscape enhancements. They may become involved in mitigating and monitoring development projects. Horticulture division managers may work in botanical gardens or zoos, collecting, acquiring and managing horticulture displays.

The University of Maryland College Park department of plant science and landscape agriculture is conveniently located in numerous facilities related to agricultural development. Close by, is the USDA Agricultural Research Center of Beltsville, Maryland. It is also associated with the National Agricultural Library, the National Botanical Garden, as well as a number of Smithsonian institutions. Responsibilities would include regularly visiting the garden, meeting with clients and assisting with design and annual sales. Candidates are encouraged to incorporate their visions to implement enhancements to the existing gardens, as well as management and maintenance.

Awards and scholarships are presented to students who showcase outstanding work performance in landscape architecture. Among the groups that present awards are the Homeland Garden Club, the American Society of Landscape Architecture, the Bartlett Tree Foundation and the Maryland Golf Association.

The Bachelor Degree Program in landscape management has an exciting study abroad course work that offers the enriching experience of a study abroad trip to the Peruvian Amazon or the breathtaking bio-diversity of Costa Rica. For the first time ever, University of Maryland College Park students will receive the chance to study in New Zealand, where it will introduce them to the country’s fascinating geologic history.
