Community colleges and universities offer educational opportunities to adults in Rhode Island; these include the Community College of Rhode Island in Warwick and the Johnson and Wales University in Providence. Adult Education Programs at Johnson and Wales University

Adult learners in Rhode Island who want to enroll in continuing education programs in personal enrichment, career transition or professional development should consider Johnson and Wales University. The school offers certificate and degree programs, as well as recreational courses. A majority of courses are offered during weekends and evenings.

Certificate for Computer-Aided Drafting

Diploma in Culinary Arts

Basic cooking techniques are taught to enrolled students through weekly cooking classes and students will be prepared for a position in commercial food service establishments.

Associate of Science – Website Development

In this program, students are trained on hardware and software platforms used to create websites. After they complete the program, students are prepared for entry-level management and web design jobs. Typically, students meet once a week during the evening.

Adult Education Programs at Community College of Rhode Island

Personal development courses and non-credit adult basic skills and literacy courses are offered at the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) Center for Workforce and Community Education. This school offers adult students opportunities to prepare for General Educational Development (GED) exams along with taking classes in basic English. Adults can select from courses related to wellness or finance for personal enrichment.

English as a Second Language Programs

English as a second language (ESL) programs are offered at Community College of Rhode Island to assist non-English speakers who want to improve their fluency in the English language. Additionally, students can choose from programs in writing, reading and pronunciation.

General Educational Development Programs

The program prepares students to take the GED exam, which is equivalent to earning a high school diploma. CCRI has been approved by the state as a testing site.
