Adult Education Programs in Massachusetts with School Information

Massachusetts has a long tradition in providing quality education to students, including adult education programs, and it is home to Ivy League Harvard University as well as numerous other academic institutions. Several universities and community colleges in Massachusetts, including non-profit education providers, such as the Cambridge Center for Adult Education and the Boston Center for Adult Education provide adult education programs through their continuing education departments.

Boston Center for Adult Education Programs

This is New England’s oldest non-profit adult education center that serves Massachusetts residents around and in the Boston area. The Boston Center for Adult Education Programs provides various adult education programs focused on fostering professional and personal development.

English as a Second Language Courses

It starts with a beginners’ course then English language students can progress through five course levels to gradually increase comprehension, speaking, and vocabulary. Other business conversation courses are offered to students.

Computer Courses

Options available in computer adult education include courses for students who want to learn applications for personal use along with courses designed for professionals looking to expand their skills. There are also courses devised to train individuals in the use of popular software applications, such as Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Word. Additionally, there are computer security and social media courses available.

Local Culture Courses

Students can gain insights into Massachusetts local culture and history by enrolling in several walking tour courses offered at the school. Different sights and neighborhoods are toured on foot. Students are provided with a guide that showcases history lessons along the way.

Culinary Arts Courses

The culinary arts courses cover topics such as wine pairings, regional cuisines, knife skills and cooking techniques. Some courses teach professional techniques, but a majority of them geared towards the home cook.

Creative Arts Courses

Adult students can discover different techniques and mediums through courses in digital photography, crochet, and stained glass. Students can get an overview of the historical Massachusetts trade through a blacksmithing course.

The Cambridge Center for Adult Education

Students have the opportunities to discover advance skills and personal interests at the Cambridge Center for Adult Education, which is a non-profit school. In addition to English as a Second Language courses, Cambridge Center provides adult education opportunities to Massachusetts residents in areas such as fine arts, languages, and entrepreneurship.

Business Courses

Entrepreneurial skills, such as starting and marketing your own business are the main focus of business courses offered at the school. Cambridge Center for Adult Education offers basic finance courses, along with a course in starting an import business.

Language Courses

The Cambridge Center teaches over ten different languages, including Arabic, Polish, and Russian. Popular language courses, such as French and Spanish are offered at multiple skill levels. Advanced conversation and reading classes are offered in different languages.

Music Courses

Group lessons are used to teach adult students how to play instruments such as the violin, mandolin, cello, piano and guitar. A majority of courses are tailored to beginning players.

Theater Courses

Various Shakespeare courses are offered in a workshop format. Beginning stand-up comedy, acting classes and improvisation courses are also offered to students. These courses are designed for amateur actors.

Photography Courses

Amateur photographers may improve their skills through courses in basic film shooting and digital photography. Courses such as ‘Photographing the Boston Harbor Islands’ give aspiring photographers an opportunity to explore the Massachusetts area.
