Fresno Adult Schools with Program and Course Information

There are several schools in the Fresno area that offer courses and programs in various areas of personal and professional development apart from English as a second language and adult basic education. In this article, we will look at adult schools in the Fresno area and the programs they offer adult students who reside in the vicinity.

Fresno Adult School

Residents of the central valley and Fresno area are served by the Cesar E. Chavez Adult Education Center’s Fresno Adult School. There are several programs at the school tailored to meet the needs of students; these include programs for older adults, enrichment classes, vocational training, and adult high school programs.

Adult Basic Education

A high school equivalency certificate can be earned by students who choose to do so. Attending classes will help them improve basic skills in math, writing and reading; in the process, students can prepare for the general educational development (GED) examination.

Clinical Medical Assistant Program

Students can learn to assist with surgical procedures, administer injections, take vital signs, and perform phlebotomies and electrocardiograms by enrolling into this four-month course. The program includes an externship program at a local healthcare facility to impart on-the-job training to students.

Computer Literacy Course

Self-paced office assistant courses and thirty hours of computer literacy courses are available to those who seek basic computer skills either for employment or personal use. Coursework focuses on PowerPoint, Excel and Microsoft Word, among other common applications.

Foodservice Training Program

In this program, students are taught to perform a variety of food service positions, including service assistant, cashier, baker and cook. The on-campus restaurant at the school is used to provide on-the-job training opportunities.

High School Diploma Program

A diploma program can be completed by adult students who enroll into high school courses offered at the school. A California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) preparation program may be attended by students with a sufficient number of credits; the program will help them prepare for the tests in mathematics and language arts.

Central Adult School

The Central Adult School offers programs to residents who live in the Fresno area. The school provides older students the opportunity to complete a high school education, enhance their English language skills, or vocational training to improve career prospects.

Adult Basic Education Programs

There are basic education courses that adult students can enroll into to take the GED test or refresh basic skills. The school also offers a GED prep course. Students are also allowed to perform independent study to complete their high school diplomas.

Auto Body Collision Repair Program

Students are prepared through this fourteen-week program to achieve entry-level jobs in the auto repair industry. Coursework includes on-the-job training imparted in body shops, in addition to classroom lectures.

Computer Classes

Students with limited computer knowledge have some computer classes focus on this area. Basic computer functions are taught to students via a Windows and Internet course. Applications such as Excel and Microsoft Word are covered in other classes.

English as a Second Language (ESL) Program

Individuals who seek to improve their language skills can enroll into ESL courses offered at different skill levels. Coursework covers verbal, writing and reading skills usable in daily life.

Welding Programs

Students seeking entry-level welding jobs can enroll into three levels of welding programs. In level one, they are introduced to shielded metal arc welding and other basic skills and shop safety. These skills can be built upon by students at the other two levels where they are also introduced to gas tungsten arc welding and gas metal arc.
