In 2008, the school transitioned from being a two-year college to a four-year university and changed its name from its former one, which was Grand View College. Grand View University is located in Des Moines, Iowa that is approximately thirty miles south of Ames, and is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. The school offers thirty-six majors, including business administration, education, nursing, mass communication, and graphic design. Recently, Grand View University introduced a Master of Science degree program in Innovative Leadership that may be applied to the business, education, and nursing programs.

Drake University – Des Moines, Iowa
Drake University is located in Iowa’s capital city and about thirty miles south of Ames. Through Drake University six colleges, students can select from over seventy majors. The school encourages its students to use their expertise in a real-life situation; approximately eighty percent of students who are enrolled at Drake University partake in internship programs before graduation. According to the U.S. News & World Report rankings, Drake University’s College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences had tied for 5th place among private universities during 2009. Dating back to 1865, the university’s School of Law is one of the twenty-five oldest in the United States, and is home to the Dwight D. Opperman Lecture series (an annual event featuring prominent speakers in the field of law.)
