Factors to Consider When Choosing the Right Logistics Graduate School

Students in graduate degree programs in logistics will be ready to manage global supply chains and their complexities, such as services, money, information, and movement of goods. They will learn how to increase the strategic advantage of the company by leveraging these systems. These programs are intended for those with experience in the world of business and range from nine months to two years.

Choosing the Right Logistics Graduate School

Admission criteria to logistics graduate schools commonly require incoming students to take the GRE (Graduate Record Examination) or GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test). In many programs, students without work experience are not considered. A background in engineering, math, or science is a requirement for admission to some schools. Four-year universities and colleges are among the schools that commonly offer logistics programs.

Commitment

Admission to a logistics graduate program involves a time commitment. Full-time weekday programs are available at most schools; online or night classes are only offered by a few. Some schools offer part-time programs aimed at students with a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree along with corporate experience.

Graduate Certificate Programs in Logistics and Supply Chain Management

This 18-credit program covers the basics of logistics and supply chain management. Schools often offer this certificate along with a master’s degree in engineering or business. The focus of study can vary by school. Core coursework may include topic areas such as:

Ph.D. Programs in Business: Logistics

The core of this program includes a strong focus on international management and analytics. Those who seek a doctoral degree in logistics are usually expected to teach for one to two years at the degree-granting school. They have to augment a dissertation with the presentation of one or more papers at a national logistics conference approved by the dissertation committee.
