The U.S. News & World Report ranked MSU number one on its 2010 list of best schools for elementary and secondary teacher education programs in the United States. An MA program in Teaching and Curriculum is available through MSU’s Department of Teacher Education at the College of Education. Students may complete this 30-credit program via online or on-campus formats. A combination of courses is chosen by students to form their concentration area, including literacy and language, K-12 education administration, or science and mathematics education. An MA program in Literacy Instruction is also available through the department. Enrollees in this program may choose a specialization in writing instruction, reading, or children’s literature.

A postgraduate Master of Teaching program is available through UVA’s Curry School of Education; the program aims at bachelor’s degree holders. The school offers the program only in a full-time on-campus format; students may complete it within one-and-a-half to two years. Numerous Master of Education (M.Ed.) programs are also offered at the school, which serve to impart advanced training for educators and teachers beyond initial licensure.
