Michigan State University (MSU) and the University of Virginia (UVA) are two of the best schools in the United States where elementary and secondary teacher education programs are available. Options for online learning are available at the top-ranked MSU. Numerous graduate degree options for teachers are available at UVA.

Michigan State University in East Lansing

The U.S. News & World Report ranked MSU number one on its 2010 list of best schools for elementary and secondary teacher education programs in the United States. An MA program in Teaching and Curriculum is available through MSU’s Department of Teacher Education at the College of Education. Students may complete this 30-credit program via online or on-campus formats. A combination of courses is chosen by students to form their concentration area, including literacy and language, K-12 education administration, or science and mathematics education. An MA program in Literacy Instruction is also available through the department. Enrollees in this program may choose a specialization in writing instruction, reading, or children’s literature.

University of Virginia in Charlottesville

The U.S. News & World Report ranked UVA number two on its 2011 list of best public universities in the United States.
