Associate of Hospitality Management Degree Overview

Associate degree programs in hospitality management equip students with fundamental knowledge of hiring practices, hospitality operations, and hospitality laws. Students who are enrolled in a hospitality management associate degree program will gain knowledge on how to manage personnel and perform in business.

Associate Degree Program in Hospitality Management

Community colleges and technical schools usually offer these two-year degree programs. Students examine aspects of finance, sanitary guidelines, and food preparation. Students also gain strong written and verbal communication skills, both of which can help when working with customers and fellow employees. Most hospitality management associate degree programs include an internship where students receive hands-on training and able to apply their knowledge to real-life situations. Students will be able to select an area of specialization, such as food service management or lodging. Applicants are required to hold a general educational development (GED) certificate or a high school diploma.

Hospitality management associate degree program graduates can pursue several different career options in various fields. Graduates will be able to delegate responsibilities to hospitality staff, including maintenance, housekeepers, waiters, cooks, and other management staff. Positions might be available in banquet, casinos, clubs, hotels, and restaurants facilities. Individuals may obtain the follow job titles:

•Dining room supervisor
•Assistant food and beverage manager
•Guess services manager
•Banquet manager

Hospitality management associate degree program graduates can either choose to further their education by enrolling in a bachelor degree program in hospitality management or enter the workforce immediately. The four-year bachelor degree programs expound upon the associate degree curriculum, and students will need to complete a particular number of hours of practical training experience within the hospitality and tourism industry.
