Degree Overview: Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Computer Networking

Students enrolled in an associate degree program in computer networking are trained to seek entry level jobs in network and software support positions in the IT field. Students are introduced to server management, data infrastructures and network operating systems. Certification can be sought by graduates who can seek jobs related to network administration, systems design and technical support.

Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Computer Networking Degree Program

A computer networking degree program familiarizes students with systems engineering and fundamental computer programming principles. Students are offered the opportunity for hands-on technical experience that will help them enhance their data management, troubleshooting and analytical skills. While most schools offer an Associate of Applied Science program as a terminal degree, some may allow students to transfer credits to facilitate enrollment in a four-year bachelor degree program. Admission criteria typically require applicants to hold a general educational development (GED) certificate or a high school diploma.

Program Coursework

The A.A.S. in computer networking degree program usually requires sixty to seventy credit hours of practice and coursework, and takes approximately two years to complete, if students are enrolled full-time. Typically, students must take general educational courses to comply with degree requirements. Professional topics may involve computer software, hardware, and networking fundamentals in an enterprise environment.
