An Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Network Management degree program will allow students to obtain the skills needed to monitor, implement, and develop computer networks. As computer technology becomes more important in various fields, positions in network management will continue to increase.

A.A.S. in Network Management Degree Program

Students enrolled in an Associate of Applied Science in network management degree program will develop the skills needed to manage, utilize, and design computer network systems. It will also prepare students to be able to solve and troubleshoot potential problems, which can occur in a system.

The associate degree program will help students develop critical thinking and analytical skills needed for this profession. Typically, students will be able to complete this program within two years, if they are enrolled full-time. Generally, applicants are required to hold a general educational development (GED) certificate or a high school diploma to gain admission into the program.

In order for students to obtain real-life experience, they can participate in internships, lab studies, and complete coursework. Along with practical studies, students may take the following subjects:

Between 2008 and 2018, the employment outlook for computer network administrators was projected to grow by twenty-three percent, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Graduates who have earned their Associate of Applied Science degree will be qualified for different employment positions in most industries. Graduates can pursue the following career options:

•Network technician
•LAN manager
•Network administrator

Students who have earned their Associate of Applied Science degree can further their education by enrolling in a four-year bachelor degree program or seek employment immediately. Although there are positions available for individuals with an associate’s degree, employers usually prefer candidates that have a bachelor’s degree. Interested individuals should consider completing a bachelor’s degree in a related subject, such as computer science, computer engineering, or computer programming. Typically, network architects and database administrators are required to complete a bachelor degree program. Certifications may be obtained through certifying agencies or product vendor upon completion of most of the courses in the Associate of Applied Science degree program.
