Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Network Information Systems degree program will prepare students for career as network information technicians or specialists. With the wide use of networking and computers in different professional fields, such a degree program can offer many possibilities to graduates.
A.A.S. in Network Information Systems Degree Program
Students enrolled in network information systems A.A.S. degree programs will be taught about the business and information technology concepts needed to seek entry level jobs as computer systems administrators or computer technicians. They can also become adept at analyzing an organization’s network needs, as well as configure and design a network system to satisfy those requirements. Admission criteria in these two-year programs typically require applicants to hold a general educational development (GED) certificate or a high school diploma.
The associate degree program curriculum will combine courses with hands-on training in computer labs. Students will be able to participate in internship programs, or cooperative education to gain real-time experience. Program course topics may include the following:
•Local area networks (LANs)
•Computer forensics and maintenance
•Maintaining network security
From 2008 to 2018, computer and network systems administrators can expect a much faster than average employment growth, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The increase in internet use due to growing mobile technologies continues to keep these workers in demand. Network information systems associate degree program graduates will have many career opportunities, such as:

Associate degree program graduates may transfer credits earned to a four-year institution and pursue a bachelor or master degree program in computer-related fields, or enter the workforce immediately. Advanced degrees will lead to careers as database administrators, network architects, or network engineers. Graduates can also obtain certifications in specialized areas of studies. These programs might be available as computer engineering, computer science, or related fields.
While certifications might not be necessary, it does demonstrate an individual’s expertise in certain areas and may enhance employment opportunities. Certification can be obtained through software and hardware vendors, training institutions, and certifying agencies.
