Majors Overview February 12, 2015Graduates of Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree programs in Database Administration or Management will be provided with the tools needed to analyze and create database structures for information storage, retrieval, and organization. Database administrators will be taught how to modify databases, implement security measures, and test programs.
Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Degree Programs in Information Technology: Database Management
Few schools, if any, offer Bachelor of Science (B.S.) programs in Database Management; B.S. degree programs in Information Technology with concentrations in database management are more commonly offered. Students are taught about creating databases and working with existing database structures in the organization, storage, and retrieval of information. Coursework is devised to train students by honing logic and problem solving skills, aimed at linking data elements and database structures.
Admission criteria typically require incoming students to hold a GED certificate or a high school diploma.
Coursework
Concepts in computer programming and statistics are explored by students, in addition to database design and Web applications. Coursework may include participation in an internship and may explore topic areas such as:
