Those interested in a career that involves selling and promoting services, brands, or products may want to look into an advertising bachelor’s degree program. Students will be prepared for entry-level work in marketing, public relations, advertising, or related fields.

Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Degree Programs in Advertising

The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) program in Advertising is devised to teach enrolled students to recognize what customers want and to create advertising campaigns aimed at reaching out to and persuading those target audiences. After they complete the program, students can expect to become adept at creating copy and advertising promotions. The program will provide valuable experiences in creating competitive design strategies and real world solutions for customers while working within creative teams.

A business-related concentration or minor is recommended by some programs. Schools usually offer internship opportunities, although these may not always be required. It takes about four years to complete a bachelor’s degree, and admission criteria typically require incoming students to hold a GED certificate or a high school diploma.

Coursework

Coursework typically includes some general education classes. Advertising coursework covers visualizing ideas, editing, writing, effective communication, and critical thinking. Elements of visual design, multicultural studies, statistics, and social science research are also incorporated within the coursework, which includes subject areas such as:

In May 2012, advertising and promotions managers banked an average annual wage of $115,750 (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS)). A 13% job growth has been predicted for these professionals over the 2010-2020 decade, with the best prospects likely to be enjoyed by applicants who possess online promotion expertise.
