Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) Programs in Global Management

Bachelor’s degree holders with work experience wishing to specialize in international economics and get trained in effectively managing multinational companies would benefit by enrolling in an MBA program with a global management emphasis. Internships, projects and courses are used to impart foundational knowledge about the global market. An MBA program often incorporates prerequisites and study abroad or flexible study opportunities.

Education Requirements

Admission criteria typically require incoming students to hold an accredited bachelor’s degree and meet requirements such as testing, education, and work experience. They must also hold a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 and meet score requirements on the Graduation Management Admission Test (GMAT). Undergraduate courses in business topics are often required to have been completed at a specific GPA.

Coursework

Students enrolled in an MBA with a specialization in global management are allowed to concentrate on the specialty area of international business. Coursework includes topic areas such as business history, economics, and political science, taught with an international focus.

Students are imparted skills that help them communicate across language barriers, deal with diversity in business, and manage a multicultural employee base. The focus of courses can also be on the policies and laws of international relations and different nations. The foreign language requirement may also be included in many programs, with students expected to complete courses in a preferred foreign language; schools also commonly include internship opportunities, immersion and overseas study opportunities. Core coursework may cover topic areas such as:

•International politics
•Global management
•Global trade and finance
•Economics
•Ethnic and race relations
•Diplomatic strategy
•Comparative market systems
•Accounting
•U.S. foreign policy
•International law

Career Choices

Program graduates may seek top executive management positions in companies expanding into the global market, or already current global companies. They may seek popular career options such as:

•Consulting
•Sales
•Management

Job and Wage Outlook

Over the 2012 – 2022 decade, a job growth rate of eight percent has been predicted for sales managers (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics). Over the same period, management analysts or consultants are expected to see a 19% growth while top executives could see a 5% growth in jobs. In May 2012, chief executives working in companies brought in an average annual wage of $210,120, while sales managers and management consultants earned respective wages of $119,980 and $88,070 on average per annum.

Continuing Education Choices

Program graduates may seek continued education by earning a Ph.D. in International Management. As opposed to MBA programs that enhance real-world management skills, Ph.D. options are typically oriented toward academic interests, such as teaching and research. Management, international strategies, and organization may be available among the areas of study.
