Overview of Associate of Business Degree: Management

Students who have earned their associate degree in business administration, business science, or business management will learn the general functions of business, such as business law, basic accounting, human resources, management, and marketing. The associate degree program will prepare students for continuing education or entry-level positions in the field.

Associate Degree Program in Business and Management

Students enrolled in an associate degree program in business management are taught fundamental concepts related to business administration and the optimal use of those skills in the management of resources and the provision of solutions to inquiries and problems ordinarily arise from business affairs. Students can become adept at coordination and organization of business operations by applying concepts learned, including financial management, marketing principles, business ethics and law, and micro and macroeconomics. Admission criteria typically require applicants to hold a general educational development (GED) certificate or a high school diploma.

Programs will balance depth and breadth in educating their students about the managerial needs of businesses. Specialized courses in business management will be taken by students; these courses are supplemented by other basic courses in education and business. Some employers for advanced positions may express a preference for candidates with a bachelor degree in business management. In some associate degree programs, students are allowed to transfer directly to a bachelor’s degree program. Those who want to educate themselves beyond a bachelor’s degree may seek enrollment in a doctoral or master degree program in business. Specialization options are available in management or more specific areas such as management information systems or human resource management.
