Accredited University of Maryland (UMD) Courses from the School of Public Health
This course focuses on public policy, research and interdisciplinary education. This is an accredited course (approved by the Council on Education for Public Health) and focuses on six main studies: behavioral health, biostatistics, family health, environment, and health services and administration.
As far as degrees, there are many disciplines and options available both to graduate students and undergraduates. Undergraduate degrees, or Bachelor of Science degrees, are available in subjects of family science, community health and kinesiology. More options are open in doctorate degrees, master degrees, and Master of Public Health degrees, in widely varied subjects such as child health, couples therapy, and toxicology.
UMCP Facilities for Public Health Education
One of the greatest features of the school includes laboratories for health sciences, body density, neuroscience, exercises, genomics and metabolism. There are also research centers for other public health subjects like health for families, risk assessment and biostatistics, and teaching health literacy.
Students not only learn the essential textbook knowledge, but work hands-on with the most respected organizations domestically and internationally, such as the Food and Drug Administration, the Environment Protection Agency, and the National Center for Health Statistics, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The UMD Admissions Process
Before submitting an online application, students are advised to consider what program is most appropriate for them, based on academic achievements and career interests. Students are expected to maintain a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average (GPA), as well as have a four year degree in undergraduate work, if they are applying for graduate degrees. Students must submit transcripts, as well as letters of recommendation. There is a $75 application fee, and tuition fees are competitive, though the school does offer the option of financial aid through the Graduate School’s University and Dean’s Fellowships program.
Senior Citizens and UMD Public Health Options
Services and courses are available to Maryland residents who are over the age of 60 and retired, though limited to less than 20 hours per working week. The library and other facilities can also be used. The distinctive Golden Identification Card, held by senior students, will waive tuition fees, though other mandatory fees will be charged.
