Degree Overview: Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Network Technology
Majors Overview August 4, 2013For students who have an interest in technical configuration and computer skills, obtaining an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Network Technology degree will be beneficial for obtaining entry-level employment. The associate degree program will prepare students to work with computer networks in different information technology (IT) environments, or continuing education opportunities at the bachelor degree level.
A.A.S. in Network Technology Degree Program
Students enrolled in an A.A.S. in Network Technology degree program will be provided with the skills needed to work with, upgrades and repairs of computer systems in various operating systems. Students who have earned their Associate of Applied Science in network technology degree will be prepared to repair, diagnose, upgrade, configure, and setup telecommunication and computer networks. Generally, colleges and universities will require students to hold a high school diploma or a general educational development (GED) certificate in order to be admitted into the associate degree programs.

Typically, students are required to complete hands-on courses that will prepare them to work with computer systems and computers. Program course topics may include the following:

Associate degree program graduates will be prepared to enter the workforce and obtain entry-level positions within different settings where computer networks will be necessary to communicate and distribute information. Although some employers may require candidates to possess a bachelor’s degree for certain jobs, potential careers for students who have earned their associate’s degree may include the following:

Certification and Continuing Education Information
Network technology associate degree program graduates may further their education in networks and other computer systems through four-year bachelor degree programs in subject such as information systems or computer science. Beyond the bachelor degree level, students can continue their studies through master degree programs in information systems management that can lead to administrative positions.
Students who have earned their associate’s degree can choose to earn their professional certification in order to advance their careers in the information technology field. Certifications may be obtained through product vendors and computer associations.
