Associate Degree Program in Marketing

While degree programs in advertising and marketing are usually offered as a four-year course of study, associate degree programs are usually limited to marketing. A two-year associate degree program in marketing; however, usually offers a curriculum, which heavily incorporates advertising principles and concepts.

A.S. in Marketing degree programs are available to individuals who want to learn how to distribute, promote, and price products. Students enrolled in these degree programs will gain specific professional skills, including testing and developing promotional strategies, developing budgets, and conducting market research. Students will also learn how to apply concepts and principles of a diverse body of disciplines, including sociology, law, and economics, to advertising and marketing.

The associate degree programs place specific emphasis on students’ career development by providing internship opportunities at area businesses and/or the opportunity to administer independent research into the careers of their choice. To gain admission into the associate degree programs, students are required to hold a general educational development (GED) certificate or a high school diploma.

•Internet marketing
•Public speaking
•Publication design
•Business law

Continuing Education Information

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS – www.bls.gov), although an associate degree can be sufficient for most entry-level advertising and marketing positions, entry into a majority of management positions requires a minimum of a bachelor degree in marketing or related fields. Marketing associate degree program graduates should consider pursuing a bachelor degree program. This may be an attractive option since credits earned from an associate degree program can be transferred to a four-year bachelor degree program.

Graduates should consider obtaining certification from professional organizations, including the American Marketing Association (AMA – www.marketingpower.com), along with pursuing a bachelor degree program. Professional certification will benefit candidates who want to improve their career opportunities.
