Overview of Associate of Business Administration (A.B.A.) Degree

Majors Overview May 14, 2013

Individuals who are interested in formal training that do not require much time and want to obtain entry-level business administration positions should consider earning an Associate of Business Administration degree. The ABA program may provide individuals with training to prepare for different business-related positions, and usually take approximately two years to complete, if students are enrolled full-time.

ABA Degree

The Associate of Business Administration degree program does have some flexibility in the courses that students are required to take, which will allow them to use elective courses in areas such as accounting or management, to add an emphasis to their curriculum. The majority of associate degree programs allow students to transfer credits earned to a four-year bachelor degree program in their chosen area of study. Depending on the situation, students can choose to complete either a track intended to prepare them for immediate entry into the professional world or a track intended for them to transfer to a four-year degree program. The degree programs usually require students to possess a general educational development (GED) certificate or a high school diploma.

Program Coursework

Several degree programs in business administration will include internship opportunities. Internship programs usually give students the option to work in an area of business that interests them the most. A core business curriculum with basic topics is generally necessary in such programs, alongside elective coursework in more specific areas. Popular program course topics may include the following:

•Accounting
•Management
•Marketing
•Business law
•Information technology
•Professional ethics
•Business spreadsheets
•Business writing
•Economics
