B.S. Programs in Fashion Marketing and Merchandising

Students enrolled in bachelor’s degree programs in Fashion Marketing and Merchandising are educated in the business aspects of the fashion industry such as wholesaling, retailing, marketing, buying, and sales. These programs are offered through various technical schools and institutes, and private and public universities and colleges. These schools typically offer these programs as a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.), Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.), Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.), and Bachelor of Science (B.S.).

Educational Requirements

Admission criteria typically require incoming students to hold a GED certificate or high school diploma. In 2012, retail buyers earned an average annual wage of $57,420, while sales managers took home $119,980, and retail store supervisors earned $40,910 (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS)). In November 2013, the average annual wage of visual merchandisers ranged between $20,649 and $50,144.

Continuing Education Choices

Students can seek continued education in Fashion Marketing and Merchandising by earning a master’s degree, wherein they are often allowed to specialize in a particular aspect of the field, such as product development or quality control.
